CALL TO WORSHIP        by Dr. Lisa Hancock

Beloved, the Spirit of Truth gathers us here to receive and discern God’s good news working among us.
Come, Holy Spirit, come!
The Spirit of Love draws us together to receive and restore life-giving relationships with God and one another.
Come, Holy Spirit, come!
The Spirit of Freedom knits us together to receive and renew the bonds of empathy, justice, and peace that bind us together in the work for liberation and wholeness.
Come, Holy Spirit, come!
Beloved, the Holy Spirit is here, moving and working among us. Will you come and receive all the Spirit has to give?
We come to receive the Spirit’s abundant and gracious gifts that we may be a people who live out God’s truth, love, and freedom in our neighborhood, community, and throughout all creation. Amen.

*Hymn 168 At the Name of Jesus+

1 At the name of Jesus every knee shall bow,
every tongue confess him King of glory now.
'Tis the Father's pleasure we should call him Lord,
who from the beginning was the mighty Word.

2 Humbled for a season, to receive a name
from the lips of sinners unto whom he came,
faithfully he bore it spotless to the last,
brought it back victorious, when from death he passed.

3 Bore it up triumphant with its human light,
Through all ranks of creatures to the central height,
To the throne of God-head, to the Father’s breast;
Filled it with the glory of that perfect rest.

4 In your hearts enthrone him; there let him subdue
all that is not holy, all that is not true.
Crown him as your Captain in temptation's hour:
let his will enfold you in its light and power.

WORDS: Caroline M. Noel, 1870 MUSIC: Ralph Vaughan Williams, 1925

1. I can hear my Savior calling, I can hear my Savior calling,
I can hear my Savior calling, "Take thy cross and follow, follow Me."
Where He leads me I will follow, where He leads me I will follow,
Where He leads me I will follow, I'll go with Him, with Him all the way.

2 I'll go with Him through the garden, I'll go with Him through the garden,
I'll go with Him through the garden, I'll go with Him, with Him all the way.

Where He leads me I will follow, I'll go with Him, with Him all the way.

Jesus Loves Me This I Know

1 Jesus loves me! this I know, for the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to him belong; they are weak, but he is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

2 Jesus loves me, this I know, as he loved so long ago,
taking children on his knee, saying, "Let them come to me."
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

3 Jesus loves me still today, walking with me on my way,
wanting as a friend to give, light and love to all who live.
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

PRAYER HYMN 337 Only Trust Him

1. Come, every soul by sin oppressed,
there's mercy with the Lord;
and he will surely give you rest,
by trusting in his Word.
Only trust him, only trust him,
only trust him now.
He will save you, he will save you,
he will save you now.

2. For Jesus shed his precious blood
rich blessings to bestow;
plunge now into the crimson flood
that washes bright as snow.
Only trust him, only trust him,
only trust him now.
He will save you, he will save you,
he will save you now.

3. Yes, Jesus is the truth the way
that leads you into rest;
believe in him without delay,
and you are fully blest.
Only trust him, only trust him,
only trust him now.
He will save you, he will save you,
he will save you now.

4. Come then and join this holy band,
and on to glory go,
to dwell in that celestial land
where joys immortal flow.
Only trust him, only trust him,
only trust him now.
He will save you, he will save you,
he will save you now.

PRAYER OF INTERCESSION and THE LORD’S PRAYER.

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name; Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven:
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory,
For ever and ever. Amen.

SERMON     Celebrating the Spirit’s movement for 70 years   Pastor David Range

Please join me in an Affirmation of Faith written by Rev. Stephanie York Arnold, General Secretary, The General Commission on the Status and Role of Women

Leader: Despite the witness of Scripture and early Church tradition, we know that too often we have failed to recognize the Divinity of Christ in women. Therefore, today, let us as the Church affirm:

All: We believe God, our Divine Creator, is mothering us,
cradling us in infinite grace and love.
We believe, like Eve, we are partners with humanity and creation.
We believe, like Deborah, we are gifted with Holy Wisdom as we seek God’s guidance.
We believe, like Tamar, we are much more than the worst things done to us.
We believe, like Esther, we are called to step out in faith, taking risks for the good of others.
We believe, like Ruth, we are meant to love others selflessly.
We believe, like Mary, we can bring to life Divine hope for the world.
We believe, like the woman caught in adultery, we are forgiven.
We believe, like Martha and Mary, we are invited to be disciples of Jesus.
We believe, like Mary Magdalene, we are called to proclaim the Good News of resurrection, no matter how unbelievable.
We believe, like Lydia, we are gifted with resources meant to be generously shared.
We see the Divine’s goodness, courage, faithfulness, and resilience reflected in women throughout Scripture and in our world today.
We believe we are called to follow their lead.
Amen.

*HYMN OF SENDING FORTH 577 God of Grace and God of Glory+

1. God of grace and God of glory,
On thy people pour thy power.
Crown thine ancient Church’s story;
Bring her bud to glorious flower.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
For the facing of this hour,
For the facing of this hour.

2. Lo! The hosts of evil ’round us,
Scorn thy Christ, assail His ways!
Fears and doubts too long have bound us;
free our hearts to work and praise.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
For the living of these days,
For the living of these days.

3 Cure thy children’s warring madness,
Bend our pride to thy control;
shame our wanton selfish gladness,
rich in things and poor in soul.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal,
lest we miss thy kingdom’s goal.

4. Save us from weak resignation,
To the evils we deplore;
let the search for thy salvation,
be our glory evermore.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage,
serving thee whom we adore,
serving thee whom we adore.
