CALL TO WORSHIP

*HYMN 733 Come We that Love the Lord+

1 Come, we that love the Lord, and let our joys be known;
join in a song with sweet accord, join in a song with sweet accord
and thus surround the throne, and thus surround the throne.
We’re marching to Zion beautiful, beautiful Zion
We’re marching upward to Zion that beautiful city of God

2 Let those refuse to sing who never knew our God;
but children of the heavenly King, but children of the heavenly King
may speak their joys abroad, may speak their joys abroad.
We’re marching to Zion beautiful, beautiful Zion
We’re marching upward to Zion, that beautiful city of God

3 The hill of Zion yields a thousand sacred sweets
Before we reach the heavenly fields, before we reach the heavenly fields
Or walk the golden streets, or walk the golden streets
We’re marching to Zion beautiful, beautiful Zion
We’re marching upward to Zion that beautiful city of God

4 Then let our songs abound and every tear be dry;
We’re marching through Emmanuel’s ground
We’re marching through Emmanuel’s ground
To fairer worlds on high to fairer worlds on high
We’re marching to Zion beautiful, beautiful Zion
We’re marching upward to Zion that beautiful city of God

HYMN 62 All Creatures of My God and King+

1 All creatures of our God and King,
lift up your voice and with us sing,
O praise ye! Alleluia!"
O brother sun with golden beam,
O sister moon with silver gleam!
O praise ye! O praise ye!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

2 O brother wind air, clouds and rain,
By which all creatures ye sustain,
O praise ye! Alleluia!
Thou rising morn, in praise rejoice,
ye lights of evening, find a voice!
O praise ye! O praise ye!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

3 O sister water, flowing clear,
make music for thy Lord to hear,
Alleluia! Alleluia!
O brother fire who lights the night,
providing warmth enhancing sight,
O praise ye! O praise ye!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

4 Dear mother earth, who day by day
unfoldest blessings on our way,
Alleluia! Alleluia!
The flowers and fruits that in thee grow,
Let them God’s glory also show!
O praise ye! O praise ye!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

5 All who are of tender heart,
Forgiving others, take your part,
O praise ye! Alleluia!
Ye who long pain and sorrow bear,
Praise God and on him cast your care!
O praise ye! O praise ye!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

6 And thou, our sister, gentle death,
Waiting to hush our latest breath,
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Thou leadest home the child of God,
And Christ our Lord the way has trod,
O praise ye! O praise ye!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

7 Let all things their Creator bless,
and worship Him in humbleness,
O praise ye! Alleluia!
Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,
and praise the Spirit, Three in One;
O praise ye! O praise ye!
Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!

*PRAISE AND WORSHIP.

Change My Heart, O God
Change my heart, O God,  make it ever true.
Change my heart, O God, may I be like you.
You are the Potter, I am the clay.
Mold me and make me, this is what I pray.
Change my heart, O God,  make it ever true.
Change my heart, O God, may I be like you.

Shine, Jesus, Shine
1. Lord, the light of Your love is shining,
in the midst of the darkness, shining:

Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us;
set us free by the truth You now bring us

—shine on me, shine on me.
Shine, Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father’s glory;
blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire.
Flow, river, flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy;
send forth Your word, Lord, and let there be light!

2. Lord, I come to Your awesome presence,
from the shadows into Your radiance;
by Your blood I may enter Your brightness:
search me, try me, consume all my darkness
—shine on me, shine on me.
Shine, Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father’s glory;
blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire.
Flow, river, flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy;
send forth Your word, Lord, and let there be light!

3. As we gaze on Your kingly brightness
so our faces display Your likeness,
ever changing from glory to glory:
mirrored here, may our lives tell Your story
—shine on me, shine on me.
Shine, Jesus, shine, fill this land with the Father’s glory;
blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire.
Flow, river, flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy;
send forth Your word, Lord, and let there be light!

CONFIRMATION SERVICE

MEMBERSHIP VOWS for June 30, 2024: Brothers and Sisters in Christ; through the Sacrament of Baptism we are initiated into Christ’s holy church.  We are incorporated into God’s mighty acts of salvation and given new birth through water and the Spirit.  All this is God’s gift, offered to us without price. Through the confession of faith, reaffirmation of faith or the transfer of membership Jakai Hodgson, Tajhrick Stewart, Delaney Bagwandeen, and Kyle Wilson confirm the covenant declared at their baptism, acknowledge what God is doing for them, and together we affirm our commitment to Christ’s holy church.

We celebrate those who have sought become members of this local church at this joint service.

These persons before you have come forward to declare they are followers of Jesus Christ and to declare or renew their faith and witness to God’s grace. They are ready to take on the responsibilities of full membership. We ask them to respond to these questions as a testimony to their faith, and I ask you, members of the congregation, to pledge to help them in this task.

On behalf of the whole Church, I ask you:

Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world, and repent of your sin?  I do.

Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves? I do.

Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior, put your whole trust in his grace, and promise to serve him as your Lord, in union with the Church which Christ has opened to people of all ages, nations, and races?  I do.

I ask you, as members of Christ’s universal church, will you be loyal to Christ through The United Methodist Church, and do all in your power to strengthen its ministries and as members of this congregation, will you faithfully participate in its ministries by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness? I will.

Jakai Hodgson/ Tajhrick Stewart/ Delaney Bagwandeen/ Kyle Wilson the Holy Spirit work within you, that having been born through water and the Spirit, you may live as a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ. Amen

Members of the household of faith, I commend these persons to your love and care. Do all in your power to increase their faith, confirm their hope, and perfect them in love.

Now of the congregation I ask:
Do you, as Christ’s body, the Church, reaffirm both your rejection of sin and your commitment to Christ?  We do.

Will you nurture one another in the Christian faith and life and include Jakai, Taj, Delaney,, and Kyle (K.J.) now before you in your care?  With God’s help we will.

Members of the household of faith, I commend these persons to your love and care. Do all in your power to increase their faith, confirm their hope, and perfect them in love.
We give thanks for all that God has already given you and we welcome you in Christian love. As members together with you in the body of Christ and in this congregation of the Miramar United Methodist Church, we renew our covenant faithfully to participate in the ministries of the church by our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service, and our witness that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ.
The God of all grace, who has called us to eternal glory in Christ, establish you and strengthen you by the power of the Holy Spirit, that you may live in grace and peace. Amen

The Right Hand of Fellowship. Presentation of new member’s packet. You may greet the new members with applause.

*HYMN 389 Freely, Freely+

God forgave my sin in Jesus’ name,
I’ve been born again in Jesus’ name;
And in Jesus’ name I come to you
To share His love as He told me to.

He said: ‘Freely, freely, you have received,
Freely, freely give;
Go in My name, and because you believe
Others will know that I live.’

All power is given in Jesus’ name,
In earth and heaven in Jesus’ name;
And in Jesus’ name I come to you
To share His power as He told me to.

He said: ‘Freely, freely, you have received,
Freely, freely give;
Go in My name, and because you believe
Others will know that I live.’

HYMN 381 Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us+

1. Savior, like a shepherd lead us,
much we need thy tender care;
in thy pleasant pastures feed us,
for our use thy folds prepare.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus!
Thou hast bought us, thine we are.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus!
Thou hast bought us, thine we are.

2. We are thine, thou dost befriend us,
be the guardian of our way;
keep thy flock, from sin defend us,
seek us when we go astray.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus!
Hear, O hear us when we pray.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus!
Hear, O hear us when we pray.

3. Thou hast promised to receive us,
poor and sinful though we be;
thou hast mercy to relieve us,
grace to cleanse and power to free.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus!
We will early turn to thee.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus!
We will early turn to thee.

 4. Early let us seek thy favor,
early let us do thy will;
blessed Lord and only Savior,
with thy love our bosoms fill.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus!
Thou hast loved us, love us still.
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus!
Thou hast loved us, love us still.

*HYMN 338 Where He Leads Me+

1. I can hear my Savior calling, I can hear my Savior calling,
I can hear my Savior calling, "Take thy cross and follow, follow Me."
Where He leads me I will follow, where He leads me I will follow,
Where He leads me I will follow, I'll go with Him, with Him all the way.

2 I'll go with Him through the garden, I'll go with Him through the garden,
I'll go with Him through the garden, I'll go with Him, with Him all the way.
Where He leads me I will follow, where He leads me I will follow,
Where He leads me I will follow, I'll go with Him, with Him all the way.

3 I'll go with Him through the judgment,
I'll go with Him through the judgment,
I'll go with Him through the judgment, I'll go with Him, with Him all the way.
Where He leads me I will follow, where He leads me I will follow,
Where He leads me I will follow, I'll go with Him, with Him all the way.

4 He will give me grace and glory, He will give me grace and glory,
He will give me grace and glory, and go with me, with me all the way.
Where He leads me I will follow, where He leads me I will follow,
Where He leads me I will follow, I'll go with Him, with Him all the way.

HYMN 697 My Country, ’Tis of Thee+

1 My country, 'tis of thee, sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing:
land where my fathers died, land of the pilgrims' pride,
from every mountainside let freedom ring!

2 My native country, thee, land of the noble free, thy name I love;
I love thy rocks and rills, thy woods and templed hills;
my heart with rapture thrills like that above.

3 Let music swell the breeze, and ring from all the trees
sweet freedom's song;
let mortal tongues awake; let all that breathe partake;
let rocks their silence break, the sound prolong.

4 Our fathers’ God, to thee, author of liberty, to thee we sing;
Long may our land be bright with freedom’s holy light;
Protect us by thy might, great God, our King.

WORDS: Samuel F. Smith, 1832 MUSIC: Thesaurus Musicus, 1744

HYMN 696 America the Beautiful+

O beautiful for spacious skies, for amber waves of grain;
for purple mountain majesties above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed his grace on thee,
and crown thy good with brotherhood from sea to shining sea.

2. O beautiful for heroes proved in liberating strife,
who more than self their country loved, and mercy more than life!
America! America! May God thy gold refine,
till all success be nobleness, and every gain divine.

3. O beautiful for patriot dream that sees beyond the years
thine alabaster cities gleam, undimmed by human tears!
America! America! God mend thine every flaw,
confirm thy soul in self-control, thy liberty in law.

WORDS & MUSIC: John Stockton; TUNE: STOCKTON

HYMN 519 Lift Every Voice and Sing+

1 Lift every voice and sing, till earth and heaven ring,
ring with the harmonies of liberty;
Let our rejoicing rise high as the listening skies,
let it resound loud as the rolling sea.
Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us;
Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us;
Facing the rising sun of our new day begun,
let us march on till victory is won.

2 Stony the road we trod, bitter the chastening rod,
felt in the days when hope unborn had died;
yet with a steady beat, have not our weary feet
come to the place for which our fathers sighed?
We have come over a way that with tears has been watered.
We have come, treading our path thru the blood of the slaughtered,
out from the gloomy past, till now we stand at last
where the whitet gleam of our bright star is cast.

3 God of our weary years, God of our silent tears,
thou who hast brought us thus far on the way;
thou who hast by thy might led us into the light,
keep us forever in the path, we pray.
Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met thee;
lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget thee;
shadowed beneath thy hand, may we forever stand,
true to our God, true to our native land.

PRAYER HYMN 404 Every Time I Feel the Spirit +

Every time I feel the Spirit..movin’ in my heart I will pray
Yes every time I feel the Spirit..movin’ in my heart I will pray.

1 Upon the mountain…my Lord spoke,
Out his mouth came, fire and smoke.
All around me…looks so shine
Ask my Lord if all was mine
Every time I feel the Spirit..movin’ in my heart I will pray
Yes every time I feel the Spirit..movin’ in my heart I will pray.

2. Jordan river runs right cold,
Chills the body, not the soul.
Ain’t but one train on this track,
Runs to heaven and right back.
Every time I feel the Spirit..movin’ in my heart I will pray
Yes every time I feel the Spirit..movin’ in my heart I will pray.

HYMN 507 Through It All+

Through it all, through it all,
I’ve learned to trust in Jesus,
I’ve learned to trust in God;
Through it all, through it all,
I’ve learned to depend upon God’s word.

WORDS & MUSIC: Andrae Crouch, 1971

*HYMN 526 What A Friend We Have In Jesus+
1 What a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
all because we do not carry, everything to God in prayer!

2 Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged; take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a friend so faithful, who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; take it to the Lord in prayer!

3 Are we weak and heavy laden, cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge, take it to the Lord in prayer!
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee? Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In his arms he'll take and shield thee; thou will find a solace there.

WORDS: Joseph M. Scriven, ca. 1855 MUSIC: Charles C. Converse, 1868

PRAYER OF INTERCESSION AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven:
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory,
For ever and ever. Amen.

HYMN OF SENDING FORTH 396 O Jesus, I Have Promised+

O Jesus, I have promised to serve thee to the end;
be thou forever near me, my Master and my friend.
I shall not fear the battle if thou art by my side,
nor wander from the pathway if thou wilt be my guide.

2 O let me feel thee near me! The world is ever near;
I see the sights that dazzle, the tempting sounds I hear;
my foes are ever near me, around me and within;
but Jesus, draw thou nearer, and shield my soul from sin.

3 O let me hear thee speaking in accents clear and still,
above the storms of passion, the murmurs of self-will.
O speak to reassure me, to hasten or control;
O speak, and make me listen, thou guardian of my soul.

4 O Jesus, thou hast promised to all who follow thee
that where thou art in glory there shall thy servant be.
And Jesus, I have promised to serve thee to the end;
O give me grace to follow, my Master and my Friend.

We give God thanks for this opportunity to worship together in-person in our sanctuary as well as online. Wearing your mask is optional as the Covid virus, although still present, is no longer a healthcare emergency. Please continue to get your booster shots as they become available. We are always happy (and look forward) to have you join us in the sanctuary, but for those who would like to continue to participate from home, we will continue to live stream the services on X.com (formerly Twitter) and youtube.com.

To join us on youtube.com simply type Miramar UMC in the search bar and then you should see the service live streamed. If you subscribe to our service through youtube.com you can set up reminders for the day before or 15 minutes before, whatever you like.
The other way to “gather” in virtual worship is through the X.com (formerly known as Twitter) service available by going to our miramarumc.org website. Pass around the information so that others may join in worship by clicking on the x.com icon on the home page. We will continue our 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. services (except when we have a fifth Sunday of the month 10:00 a.m. service.) If you lose the service for a few seconds do not worry it will probably come back, but if it is longer than a few seconds you might try clicking the refresh Error! Filename not specified. button in your browser window.

Please email your prayer requests for uplifting on Sundays by sending them to miramarpastor@gmail.com. It is best if you send them by Saturday NOON if possible.

Our church prayer meeting is online on Sundays at 7:30 p.m. and you may contact Marvia Aitken or Vinessa Edwards for the link.

If you need help call the church office at 954-989-4711. Thanks to all who have signed up for this. The regular tithes and offerings of the church are a great source of blessing.
 2. You can also mail a check to Miramar United Methodist Church. If you have your offering envelopes you will see that the address of the church is printed for mailing purposes and your offering can be mailed in this envelope when you apply a stamp. You may also use a regular envelope and address it to: MUMC, 2507 Utopia Drive, Miramar FL 33023. Just put your check inside, mark which funds you would like to support, put a stamp on and let the United States Postal Service do the rest! Or bring it by after the Sunday services, someone will be in the church for one hour after the worship finishes as well as Mon-Thurs 1-5 pm. We trust God will keep us strong.
3.  Also, we have the option of giving by text!  Use 833-931-1791 to GivePlusText and when you text any amount, by putting that number in the message, you will be prompted to register, then fill out the details of your name, address and means of payment, and the contribution will go in!
