Call to worship

Lighting the Christ candle

Leader: When Jesus was born, the world was full of praise.

All: The angels sang, “Glory to God!”

Leader: The shepherds went home, glorifying and praising God.

All: We too want to sing our praises:

Leader: for the birth of that special baby in the manger,

All: for a God who loves our world so much,

Leader: for the love we share with each other.

All: Praise God! Praise God! Praise God!

Prayer: Gracious God, we’re glad Jesus was born. Thank you for Mary and Joseph and the way they cared for him. May this Christmas Day be a time for our family to show how much we love one another. We praise you for your wondrous love. Amen.

Recessional Hymn 218                                    It Came upon the Midnight Clear

(As you leave the church follow the directions of the ushers, with the right side exiting past the fellowship hall, and the left side going towards the Sunday School wing)

It came upon the midnight clear, that glorious song of old,

From angels bending near the earth, to touch their harps of gold:

“Peace on the earth, good will to men from heaven’s all gracious King”

The world in solemn stillness lay, to hear the angels sing.

Still through the cloven skies they come with peaceful wings unfurled,

And still their heavenly music floats o’er all the weary world;

Above its sad and lowly plains, they bend on hovering wing.

And ever o’er its Babel sounds the blessed angels sing.

And ye, beneath life’s crushing load, whose forms are bending low,

Who toil along the climbing way with painful steps and slow,

Look now! For glad and golden hours come swiftly on the wing.

O rest beside the weary road, and hear the angels sing!

For lo! The days are hastening on, by prophet seen of old,

When with the ever circling years shall come the time foretold

When peace shall over all the earth its ancient splendors fling,

And the whole world sends back the song which now the angels sing.

Hymn outside--239                                                                          Silent Night

Silent night, holy night, all is calm, all is bright

Round yon virgin mother and child. Holy infant, so tender and mild,

Sleep in heavenly peace, sleep in heavenly peace.

Silent night, holy night, shepherds quake, at the sight;

Glories stream from heaven afar, heavenly hosts sing Alleluia!

Christ the Savior is born, Christ the Savior is born!

Silent night, holy night, Son of God, love’s pure light;

Radiant beams from thy holy face with the dawn of redeeming grace,

Jesus, Lord, at thy birth, Jesus, Lord, at thy birth.

Silent night, holy night, wondrous star, lend thy light;

With the angels let us sing, Alleluia to our King;

Christ the Savior is born, Christ the Savior is born!

Benediction under the stars
