Please read the insert on BOLD Justice to see what we are able to achieve with the help of other congregations in affordable housing and employment. This year the group chose to address Crime and police community relations. Since the beginning of the year this committee has met twice.  The committee meetings have been attended by approximately 15 BOLD Justice leaders.  They have conducted research with BSO, Hollywood Police, Ft. Lauderdale Police, State Attorney, Public Defender, ACLU, and an academic researcher.  The committee's interest focuses on two areas: 1) The way police interact with the community and 2) Drugs and crime in the neighborhood.  A strong problem statement has not yet been drafted, but this should be coming soon as the committee begins to shift its focus towards best practices / potential solutions as well as the decision makers who can implement those solutions.  The next committee meeting will occur on Monday, March 8th, 2010 at 7:00pm at St. John United Methodist 1520 NW 5th St, Ft. Lauderdale, FL 33311--anyone interested in helping is welcome to attend.
