Pastor: David Range

Dear friends,
Remember there are two ways you can watch our services. One is on youtube.comby typing in the search bar: Miramar UMC and then you should see the service live streamed. I am told that if you subscribe to our service through youtube.com that you can set up reminders for the day before or 15 minutes before, whatever you like. We will, of course, keep the Twitter service the same as we have been doing since March. We are thankful for our www.MiramarUMC.org website. Pass around the information so that others may join in worship by clicking on the Twitter bird icon on the home page. We will continue our 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. services (except when we have a fifth Sunday 10:00 a.m. service as we have this Sunday, Nov. 29). Next Sunday is a holy communion Sunday so you are invited to prepare bread and juice/wine/water as the element to share in this sacrament at home.  Please email your prayer requests for uplifting on Sunday by sending them to miramarpastor@gmail.com. It is best if you send them by Saturday night at 8:30 if possible.

Remember Sunday School is usually at 10:00 a.m. on Zoom so children from both services can take part. However, since we have one 10:00 a.m. service this Sunday, the Sunday School will be at 11:00 a.m. You may contact Marvia Aitken at marviaaitken@hotmail.com or Pastor David at miramarpastor@gmail.com. Also, every other Sunday we will have Youth Group on GoToMeeting.com. Please contact Pastor David at miramarpastor@gmail.com for the link. Our prayer meeting is online on Sundays at 7:30 p.m. and you may contact Marvia Aitken or Vinessa Edwards for the link.

Please remember the family of Austin Brown who passed away November 1.  We will celebrate his life on Friday, December 4 at 12:00 noon, preceded by a visitation, all at Fred Hunter’s Funeral Home, 6301 Taft Street, Hollywood. Follow this link to watch the livestream of the funeral: www.fredhunters.com/page/live-webcasting. Password: Channel 1 – FuneralLivestream 1#

Thanks to those who have signed on to e-giving. Thanks to those who have dropped by for a short visit, keeping social distance, or to drop off their gift in person or to pick up the Upper Room daily devotional guide. This week, Monday through Thursday there will be someone in the church or pastor’s office from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. each day, and other times by appointment. Please remember to enter from the south entrance near the Pastor’s office. No other doors will be open for church business. Please remember the special offering for Harvest Thanksgiving on November 22 at both services.

The pre school has reopened but you should still come in by the south entrance because the north entrance from the parking lot has been sanitized and must be kept clean for the little children of the pre school. Please let friends with pre school aged children know that they can enroll the children in our pre school.

Looking forward to worshiping with you through the Holy Spirit.

Grace and peace, Pastor David

First Sunday in Advent, The Candle of Hope
 10:00 a.m. service

Call to Worship

On this first Sunday of Advent, we come together in hope, yet in the assurance that the one on whom our hope is fixed, Jesus Christ our Savior, is present with us. We light the first candle trusting in the HOPE of our salvation.
(Light the first candle)
As the pilgrims to Jerusalem sang,
"O Israel, hope in the Lord; for with the Lord there is unfailing love. His redemption overflows. He himself will redeem Israel from every kind of sin." (Psalm 130:7-8)

*Hymn 196 Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus ccli #242496
1 Come, thou long expected Jesus,
born to set thy people free;
from our fears and sins release us,
let us find our rest in thee.
Israel's strength and consolation,
hope of all the earth thou art;
dear desire of every nation,
joy of every longing heart.

2 Born thy people to deliver,
born a child and yet a King,
born to reign in us forever,
now thy gracious kingdom bring.
By thine own eternal spirit
rule in all our hearts alone;
by thine all sufficient merit,
raise us to thy glorious throne.
WORDS: Charles Wesley, 1744 MUSIC: Rowland H. Prichard, 1830; harm. from The English Hymnal, 1906  ccli #242496

Great And Mighty
Great & Mighty is the Lord our God
Great and Mighty is He
Great & Mighty is the Lord our God
Great and Mighty is He
Lift up your banner, let the anthems ring
praises to our King
Great and mighty is the Lord our God,
great and mighty is He

I Will Serve Thee
I will serve Thee because I love Thee
You have given life to me
I was nothing before You found me
You have given life to me
Heartaches…broken pieces
Ruined lives are why you died on calvary
Your touch was what I longed for
You have given life to me.

Children’s Time

*Hymn 250 Once in Royal David’s City
1 Once in royal David’s city
stood a lowly cattle shed,
Where a mother laid her Baby
in a manger for His bed.
Mary, loving mother mild;
Jesus Christ, her little Child.

2 He came down to earth from Heaven
who is God and Lord of all
And His shelter was a stable
and His cradle was a stall.
With the poor, the scorned, the lowly
lived on earth our Savior holy.

3 Jesus is our childhood’s pattern;
day by day like us He grew;
He was little, weak and helpless,
tears and smiles like us He knew;
And he feeleth for our sadness
and He shareth in our gladness.

4 And our eyes at last shall see Him,
 through His own redeeming love;
For that Child so dear and gentle
is our God in Heaven above;
And He leads His children on
to the place where He is gone.

5 Not in that poor lowly stable
with the oxen standing by
we shall see him, but in heaven,
set at God’s right hand on high.
There his children gather round,
bright like stars, with glory crowned

The regular tithes and offerings of the church are a great source of blessing.

Just put your check inside, mark which funds you would like to support, put a stamp on and let the United States Postal Service do the rest! Or bring it by after the services, someone will be in the church for one hour after the worship finishes. We trust God will keep us strong.

Also, we have the option of giving by text! Use 833-931-1791 to GivePlusText and when you text any amount, by putting that number in the message, you will be prompted to register, then fill out the details of your name, address and means of payment, and the contribution will go in! Prayer Hymn 202 People, Look East
1 People, look east. The time is near
Of the crowning of the year.
Make your house fair as you are able,
Trim the hearth and set the table.
People, look east and sing today:
Love, the guest, is on the way.

2 Furrows, be glad. Though earth is bare,
One more seed is planted there:
Give up your strength the seed to nourish,
That in course the flower may flourish.
People, look east and sing today:
Love, the rose, is on the way.

3 Stars, keep the watch. When night is dim
One more light the bowl shall brim,
Shining beyond the frosty weather,
Bright as sun and moon together.
People, look east and sing today:
Love, the star, is on the way.

4 Angels, announce with shouts of mirth
Him who brings new life to earth.
Set every peak and valley humming
With the word, the Lord is coming.
People, look east and sing today:
Love, the Lord, is on the way.

Pastoral prayer and Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven:
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory,
For ever and ever. Amen.

Sermon: Keeping Watch in this Season

*Hymn of sending forth 251 Go, Tell it on the Mountain
1 Go, tell it on the mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, tell it on the mountain,
That Jesus Christ is born.

1 While shepherds kept their watching
O’er silent flocks by night,
Behold throughout the heavens
There shown a holy light

Go, tell it on the mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, tell it on the mountain,
That Jesus Christ is born.

2 The shepherds feared and trembled,
When lo! above the earth,
Rang out the angel chorus
That hailed the Savior's birth.

Go, tell it on the mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, tell it on the mountain,
That Jesus Christ is born.

3 Down in a lowly manger
The humble Christ was born,
And God sent us salvation
That blessed Christmas morn.

Go, tell it on the mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, tell it on the mountain,
That Jesus Christ is born.
