Hymnbook 106 to read together the words of M. L. King, Jr. “Our God is Able”

Prayer for Human Relations Day written by Nancy R. McMaster:
Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on us. As we gather in this place, allow your Spirit to fill our very being.
As we worship today, we remember our brothers and sisters who are worshiping elsewhere throughout the world. Inspire each of us to work more faithfully for justice and dignity of life everywhere.
Raise our vision above the barriers of color, culture, and creed that separate us. Give wisdom as we deal with one another. Help us to recognize and to respect different ways, rather than to judge.
In the Spirit of Jesus who came not to be served, but to serve, we now must walk in the world. We must reach out our hands with help and open our hearts in love. Awake in us the desire to seek your way of serving you in the world. Amen

Reception of Tithes and Offerings

Dedication of new choir hymnbooks: We present these hymnbooks for choir use to be consecrated to the glory of almighty God and for service in this church in loving memory of Hugh Lionel Gray, Claude S. Cousins, Jr., and Osmond George McCorkle by their families.
We accept these hymnbooks in sacred trust and will guard and use them reverently in memory of Hugh, Claude and Osmond.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit we consecrate these hymnbooks to the glory of God in memory of God’s servants Hugh Lionel Gray, Claude S. Cousins, Jr., and Osmond George McCorkle. The memory of the righteous is ever blessed.
Let us pray: Most loving God, without you no words or works of ours have meaning. Accept the gifts of our hands as symbols of our devotion. Grant us your blessing, as we have consecrated these gifts to your glory, that they may be part of an enduring witness before all your people, and that our lives may be consecrated in your service; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
(11:00 the children ages 2 to 12 are invited to go to Sunday School--all children are welcome)

The donor gets a tax write-off and the church gets a lump sum payment!

College aged kids--have you thought about your summer job yet? You might want to think about being on the leadership team at the Warren W. Willis UM summer camps. If selected, each Team Member serves from May 28 through August 9, you receive room and board and a minimum of $1675 for the summer. See Pastor David if you want to begin the application process.

Also, each summer, the camp hires two nurses each week to serve in ministry to the campers, team members, and adult volunteers. The camp is looking for individuals who are licensed as RN's or LPN's that would be interested in serving for one or several weeks during the summer. Speak to the Pastor for more information.

If you have opened an account at Suntrust since August 2007, and used your debit card, the church can receive a $100 check as part of its “My Cause” promotion. Check with the pastor for how you can make your submission.
News from the District and Conference:

Gift Cards. Sherry Jordan of First UMC, Coral Gables wants to share this news:  If you take a letter on church letter head to your local Target with a specific need to serve children in the community, your Target may be able to provide up to $200.00 of gift cards to meet that need.  Go to the Customer Service desk and ask for the manager on duty.  We appreciate the way Target and other vendors have helped us reach out to families.

SCREAM: Get Ready for the Ride
An Event for Young Adult Leaders Feb. 20-22, 2009
"The Center for Clergy Excellence is sponsoring an event for young adult leaders (ages 18-25) for the purpose of identifying, equipping and encouraging emerging United Methodist leadership, and to provide a space for God's call to be heard and clarified.  Young adults will learn how to be more effective leaders, how to serve the Church and the world, how to listen for God's call, and will build community with other young adults from around the Annual Conference. Scream will be held in Orlando, February 20-22.  The cost is only $25. To register, visit www.screamumc.org.  Please help us spread the word and encourage your young leaders to register early and attend.

Church Auditor
The Florida Conference is looking for retired or partially-employed people interested in performing church audits on an as needed basis. This person would travel to a church and review the necessary records, complete a questionnaire, and mail the questionnaire, year-end financial statement and other necessary back-up documents to the Conference and who would then prepare a report based on the information they have gathered.  Requirements: Accounting or auditing background; available to work two days a week for at least 26 weeks of the year; have transportation available to travel within the district they live in; and be able to work on own with little or no supervision.   The position pays $20/hour plus expenses. Training will be provided. To apply, send resumes to Wendy McCoy, director of Human Relations for the Florida Conference, at wmccoy@flumc.org.

Please remember that there are Upper Room Devotional Guides and Pockets magazine available in the back of the church.

Offering envelope books for 2009 are now available. Please remember to pick up yours on the back table.

Due to the tremendous response, the US Census Office has met their hiring quota and has cancelled all remaining test dates.

Thanks to Shirley Gregg-Leonce who has agreed to be chair of the Trustees, they always vote on that at their first meeting of the year, and Annie Humphries who agreed to be the secretary.

The Kids Birthday Club is now scheduled for Sunday, March 22 after the 11 am service. We need families to sign up by giving the month, day, and year of their child(ren) on the form in the bulleting and putting it in the offering plate. Please mention the birthdates of all the children in the family.

With the Block Party coming the church is looking for those who can help by donating chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, rolls, salad, etc. Please put your name on the sign up sheet in the back of the church.

Broward County Public Schools is hosting an “Educational Engagement Fair” on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009 from 9 am to noon at McFatter Technical Center, 6500 Nova Drive in Davie. This is an outreach to those who have dropped out of school. Students will learn about the options available to them for getting their diploma. It’s never too late to graduate is the message. Please see the poster on the bulletin board.

It's time to start thinking about joining a Celebrate Jesus Mission Team! Just like we had 8 visitors last summer you can help out in the North East District, (around Jacksonville) this July 25 to August 1. Please see Pastor David for more info and application forms.
