Pastor: David Range

Hi Miramar United Methodist Church family and friends,

Welcome to our worship services!

As it appears we are going to have online services only for some time, I want you to know that we intend to follow our usual schedule of worship service times. We hope everyone will worship from your home by streaming the services each Sunday at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m.

Every time there is a fifth Sunday of the month, and also for the Christmas Cantata, the Easter Cantata, the Multicultural Sunday (second Sunday in June) and the Pastor Appreciation Sunday (the last Sunday in October) we have one joint 10:00 a.m. service.

As you know by now, the bishop has asked all the churches in the Florida Conference to not have public worship in our sanctuaries. He has also given permission for all of us to share in Holy Communion online in this extreme case.

This is the beginning of Holy Week and we will continue have online worship for the Maundy Thursday service at 7:30 p.m. on April 9 and for the Good Friday service at 7:30 p.m. on April 10. Easter services will be held online on April 12 at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. as we proclaim “Christ is risen, He is risen indeed.” God will guide us.This is the best we can do at this time as we seek to limit our interactions and keep a good social distance.

To watch the services, please go to www.MiramarUMC.org and look on the upper left of the home page for the little Twitter bird, click on that icon and enjoy the service. You can look back and watch previous services also. This order of service below (what we usually see in our bulletin) will also be on the home page. Some people watched the service on their computer last week while they sang from the words on our web page (or our email) on their phone screen. Some of you may open two browser windows, one for the video live stream and one for the words you need to have to join in the singing and prayers and keep up with the announcements. Share your stories with each other about how you made it work. Please reach out to your church family and friends by phone, or text or any other safe means so that we can keep our close fellowship alive.

Thanks to all for the positive comments about last week’s services and your level of participation!

Every blessing, Pastor David

Children’s Time

*Hymn 277 Tell Me the Stories of Jesus
1 Tell me the stories of Jesus, I love to hear;
Things I would ask Him to tell me, if He were here:
Scenes by the wayside, tales of the sea,
Stories of Jesus, tell them to me.

2 First let me hear how the children, stood 'round His knee,
And I shall fancy His blessing resting on me;
Words full of kindness, deeds full of grace,
All in the love light, of Jesus' face.

3 Into the city I'd follow, the children's band,
Waving a branch of the palm tree, high in my hand;
One of His heralds, yes, I would sing
Loudest hosannas, "Jesus is King!”

WORDS: William H. Parker, 1885. MUSIC: Frederick A. Challinor, 1903.

May we pray together:

A Prayer Amid an Epidemic By Kerry Weber

Jesus Christ, you traveled through towns and villages “curing every disease and illness.” At your command, the sick were made well. Come to our aid now, in the midst of the global spread of the coronavirus, that we may experience your healing love. Lord, hear our prayer

Heal those who are sick with the virus. May they regain their strength and health through quality medical care. Lord, hear our prayer

Heal us from our fear, which prevents nations from working together and neighbors from helping one another. Lord, hear our prayer

Heal us from our pride, which can make us claim invulnerability to a disease that knows no borders. Lord, hear our prayer

Be with the families of those who are sick or have died. As they worry and grieve, defend them from illness and despair. May they know your peace. Lord, hear our prayer

Be with the doctors, nurses, researchers and all medical professionals who seek to heal and help those affected and who put themselves at risk in the process. May they know your protection and peace. Lord, hear our prayer

Be with the leaders of all nations. Give them the foresight to act with charity and true concern for the well-being of the people they are meant to serve. Give them the wisdom to invest in long-term solutions that will help prepare for or prevent future outbreaks. May they know your peace, as they work together to achieve it on earth. Lord, hear our prayer

Whether we are home or abroad, surrounded by many people suffering from this illness or only a few, Jesus Christ, stay with us as we endure and mourn, persist and prepare. In place of our anxiety, give us your peace.
Jesus Christ, heal us. Lord, hear our prayer

We lift our other concerns…

Let us share together The Lord’s Prayer:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven:
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us;
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory,
For ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer Hymn 301 Jesus, Keep Me Near the Cross
1 Jesus, keep me near the cross,
There a precious fountain;
Free to all, a healing stream,
Flows from Calv'ry's mountain.
Refrain:
In the cross, in the cross
Be my glory ever,
Till my ransomed soul shall find
Rest beyond the river.

2 Near the cross, a trembling soul,
Love and mercy found me;
There the Bright and Morning Star
Shed His beams around me. (Refrain)

3 Near the cross! O lamb of God,
Bring its scenes before me;
Help me walk from day to day
With its shadow o'er me. (Refrain)

4 Near the cross! I'll watch and wait,
Hoping, trusting ever;
Till I reach the golden strand,
Just beyond the river. (Refrain)

Sermon             Hosanna! What does it mean?

Hymn of Preparation 618  Let Us Break Bread Together   verses 1, 2, 3
1 Let us break bread together on our knees;
let us break bread together on our knees.
When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun,
O Lord, have mercy on me.

2 Let us drink wine together on our knees;
let us drink wine together on our knees.
When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun,
O Lord, have mercy on me.

3 Let us praise God together on our knees;
let us praise God together on our knees.
When I fall on my knees with my face to the rising sun,
O Lord, have mercy on me.

Communion Great Thanksgiving for Later in Lent

The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them up to the Lord
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give our thanks and praise.

It is right and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, creator of heaven and earth.  In love you made us for yourself; and when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death your love remained steadfast.  You bid your faithful people cleanse their hearts and prepare with joy for the Easter feast, that, renewed by your Word and Sacraments and fervent in prayer and works of justice and mercy, we may come to the fullness of grace that you have prepared for those who love you. And so, with you people on earth and all the company of heaven we praise your name and join their unending hymn;
Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.  Hosanna in the highest.  Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna In the highest.

Holy are you and blessed is your Son Jesus Christ, whom you sent in the fullness of time to redeem the world.  He emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in our likeness.  He humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross.
He took upon himself our sin and death and offered himself, a perfect sacrifice for the sin of the whole world.  By the baptism of his suffering, death, and resurrection you gave birth to your Church, delivered us from slavery to sin and death, and made with us a new covenant by water and the Spirit.

On the night in which he gave himself up for us, he took bread, gave thanks to you, broke the bread, gave it to his disciples, and said: “Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you.  Do this in remembrance of me.”

When the supper was over he took the cup, gave thanks to you, gave it to his disciples, and said:

“Drink from this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.  Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”

And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, we offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ’s offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith.
Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again.

Pour out your Holy Spirit on us gathered here, and on these gifts of bread and wine.  Make them be for us the body and blood of Christ, that we may be for the world the body of Christ, redeemed by his blood. By your Spirit make us one with Christ, one with each other, and one in ministry to all the world, until Christ comes in final victory, and we feast at his heavenly banquet.
Through your Son Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit in your holy Church, all honor and glory is yours, almighty Father, now and forever.
Amen.

You are invited to partake of the elements of communion prayerfully at home.

*Closing Hymn 295 In the Cross of Christ I Glory
1 In the cross of Christ I glory,
towering o'er the wrecks of time;
all the light of sacred story
gathers round its head sublime.

2 When the woes of life o'ertake me,
hopes deceive, and fears annoy,
never shall the cross forsake me.
Lo! it glows with peace and joy.

3 When the sun of bliss is beaming
light and love upon my way,
from the cross the radiance streaming
adds more luster to the day.

4 Bane and blessing, pain and pleasure,
by the cross are sanctified;
peace is there that knows no measure,
joys that through all time abide.

5 In the cross of Christ I glory,
towering o'er the wrecks of time;
all the light of sacred story
gathers round its head sublime.
